Mystery Kitchen Tool
My sister-in-law emailed me with a question about this little object. She says that she inherited it from her husband's grandmother and that it is a kitchen tool. She has no idea what it is. She said it is porcelain and has a bunch of tiny raised bumps on it. Zesting a lemon with it did not prove to be successful, so it isn't that. Any guesses??? My guess is a soap dish, but that doesn't explain the circular hole at the top. What do you think?

hmmm...i have no idea. maybe a scraper...like the ones that come with pampered chef cookie sheets? the hole must mean it can hang on a wall?
Todd says it's spice microplane, a scraper for nutmeg and cinnamon sticks?
it doesn't look sharp enough to be a microplane...unless its from the 70s or something. c-that's too funny you asked todd what it is. :)
Oh, I wish this was a contest. It's a porcelain ginger grater. I win!

i got it. its an exfoliator for your butt!
Todd might actually be the closest to being right...or Angie. I'll have to get some ginger and nutmeg and try it. A "microplane," how did you know that!?

Is anyone listening? I know I'm right! Go to google images and type porcelain ginger grater - you'll see a picture of this exact item!
Well, it looks like we have a tie! Angie, you are right with your ginger grater, but Todd is also right that it is also called a spice microplane! Great job you guys! You are so smart. Catherine...since it is your tool, have you tried it? How does it work?
